One of our core missions at Nellis FMR is to mentor students and young physicians to help them foster skills unique to Family Medicine, which can be used in whatever future specialty they may select.
Third year medical students rotating with us get a broad introduction into family medicine, while focusing on common clinic problems. Medical students regularly participate in multiple procedures to include:
- Colonoscopy
- Vasectomy
- Colposcopy and other women's health procedures
- Osteopathic manipulative therapy
- Medical acupuncture
- Cardiac treadmills
- Dermatologic biopsies
Inpatient medicine, critical care, obstetrics and wilderness medicine are also included. Fourth year medical students get a similarly broad experience, with additional opportunities to experience flight medicine or other areas of the medical group unique to Nellis AFB, "Home of the Fighter Pilot" We also offer
4th year Acting Internships, where rotating 4
th year medical students carry more responsibility, including seeing their own patients in clinic.
Any medical student from any school in the U.S. can rotate with us, although we preferentially place students with active duty service commitments (HPSP or USUHS). We highly encourage anyone interested in our residency to arrange a rotation with us. Planning ahead is essential, not only to choose a month that fits your schedule, but also to ensure we create a training affiliation agreement with your school if one is not current; we recommend contacting us 9 months in advance. There are also opportunities to rotate in other departments in our facility. We are affiliated with the
Uniformed Services University School of Medicine and also receive 3rd year students from nearby
Touro University. For medical students interested in
rotating at Nellis AFB Residency or interviewing please fill out the

entertainment and
outdoor adventure opportunities (such as scaling Mt Charleston, boating on Lake Meade or hiking in Red Rock Canyon). Admission to events are available at reduced rates through the
