Faculty
The Nellis Family Medicine Residency is bolstered by a faculty of 12 full-time board certified family physicians and a clinical social worker. These clinical preceptors come from many backgrounds, and bring a rich variety of experience to the educational environment of the residency. Our faculty members have been residents and/or prior educators at many other residency sites to include programs at Eglin AFB, Travis AFB, Offutt AFB, Scott AFB and Ft. Belvoir.
Fellowships: Our program has a commitment to providing our educators with the tools and training needed to prepare our graduates for clinical success in family medicine. We have a proven track record of getting at least one faculty member to faculty development fellowship each year. Current faculty fellowship training includes:
Faculty Development - University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (3)
Faculty Development - Michigan State University
Sports Medicine Fellowship - National Capital Consortium (USUHS/Ft. Belvoir)
OB Fellowship - Swedish Medical Center, Seattle WA
OB Fellowship – Women’s Hospital, Greensboro, NC
Deployments: The Nellis faculty has further broadened experience through contributions to the ongoing expeditionary medical mission of the Air Force. One faculty member served as the deputy surgeon for a combined joint special operations task force. This unique assignment allowed him the opportunity to travel frequently to local team houses ensuring the highest quality of care for SF teams.
Humanitarian: We value commitment to global health promotion. Our faculty members regularly support humanitarian missions worldwide to include the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Cambodia, Thailand, Peru, Nicaragua, Haiti, Uganda and Honduras.
Hobbies/Interests: Not all interests lie in the hospital, and our staff physicians make regular use of their time to enjoy life outside the residency. Interests include financial investment, spartan racing, sports medicine, research, fishing, Krav Maga, photography, wilderness medicine, just about anything related to Disney, boating, mountain biking, road biking, golf, hiking, running, hunting and development of zombie outbreak survival skills.
Awards: While each of us could talk your ear off about how we love being a part of the Nellis family medicine residency, and how we thoroughly enjoy getting to work with some of the best faculty in the Air Force, it's nice to know that we have some external validation for these feelings.
