Third year The third year readies you to launch as a family physician out into the "real" Air Force. The focus of this year shifts even more to your outpatient continuity clinic, completing your scholarly activity, and honing your procedural skills. The year includes 12 more weeks of elective time and the opportunity for humanitarian missions to underdeveloped countries all over the world. Again, you are allowed one paid CME trip during the year. Three residents serve as chiefs for the year.

The year is broken up into 13 x4-week blocks:
- Trauma ICU (4 weeks)
- Adult Emergency medicine (4 weeks)
- Sports Medicine/Ortho (4 weeks)
- Procedures (4 weeks)
- Night float (2 weeks) / Inpatient (2 weeks)
- Night float (2 weeks)/Inpatient (2 weeks)
- Dermatology (2 weeks)
- Neurology (2 weeks)
- Pediatrics (2 weeks)
- 2 months are given to rotate with specialists of resident's choosing
- Community Medicine (2 weeks)
We expect graduating residents to be skilled in a wide variety of procedures, for example:
- Neonatal Circumcision
- Vasectomy
- Minor Dermatologic Surgery
- Joint Injection and Aspiration
- Vaginal Deliveries
- Outpatient Gynecologic Procedures
- We offer independent performance credentialing in some procedures such as colonoscopy, colposcopy, LEEP, central lines, and Cesarean sections which are available (but not mandatory) for all residents. Residents are also afforded the opportunity to get credentialed in both auricular (battlefield) acupuncture and extensive medical acupuncture.
Finally, one of our guiding principles is to encourage residents to pursue learning in their areas of passion. Practically, this means we will support residents who wish to obtain unique expertise in "Areas of Concentration" such as
Wilderness Medicine,
International Travel Medicine, Flight Medicine, sports medicine, OB, or other areas.
