Construction to begin on Tyndall Avenue Published Jan. 30, 2015 By Brent D. Morris 99th Civil Engineer Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Base personnel should expect lane closures along Tyndall Avenue beginning Jan. 30 or the week of Feb. 2 until September of this year to allow for improvement of the base's water main infrastructure. The $750,000 project, overseen by the 99th Civil Engineer Squadron, will tie in remaining aircraft hangars, buildings and facilities to a recently installed water main. Buildings to be connected to the new water main are: 122, 250, 252, 253, 256, 260, 267, 270, 282, 285, 286, 290 and 415. Work sites will occur at various locations along Tyndall Avenue, starting at the Fitzgerald Boulevard and Tyndall Avenue intersection and ending near Building 250. The contractor plans to execute the work from north to south. Since excavation work will take place adjacent to, and on, Tyndall Avenue, vehicle operators can expect occasional traffic delays, slower traffic and detours when encountering these construction areas. Drivers should anticipate the presence of flaggers, workmen, construction equipment, road trench plates and traffic barriers. The project's goal is to improve the potable water quality and increase water quantity and pressure available for fire protection at each of the various buildings scheduled for tie-in. This will allow for the abandonment of the 65-year-old Tyndall Avenue water main that has outlived its service life. The contractor will maintain water service to the various aircraft hangars and facilities along Tyndall Avenue as the project progresses. Users at the facilities to be tied-in should expect temporary water and possible utility outages when the contractor connects their facility's water line to the new water main. The contractor will work to minimize the outages when an outage is required. This project may cause some inconvenience to drivers using Tyndall Avenue and airfield unit personnel, and the 99th CES appreciates the base personnel's patience and cooperation at the buildings identified.
