Air Force to conduct urban training over Caliente, Panaca Published Oct. 16, 2008 Nellis AFB Office of Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The U.S. Air Force Weapons School here will be conducting training in and near Caliente and Panaca next week. The upcoming training will give U.S. aircrews the opportunity to simulate tracking enemy targets in an urban environment. Aircraft will stay at an altitude of at least 4,000 feet, will not carry live weapons and will not fly at supersonic speeds. Ground forces in unmarked vehicles will use radios and GPS equipment to guide pilots to their simulated targets. The urban close air support training will take place Oct. 23 from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. and 6 - 7:30 p.m. On Oct. 24, training will be from 9:30 - 10 a.m. The U.S. Air Force Weapons School training is essential to ensure pilots are ready to support American and allied ground forces in close contact with the enemy in Iraq and Afghanistan.
