Weapons School Mission Employment phase begins Published Dec. 2, 2009 By Nellis Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Southern Nevada residents may notice increased military aircraft activity as the United States Air Force Weapons School begins its Mission Employment phase from Dec. 2- 9. Approximately 130 aircraft from both the Air Force and Navy will participate in the two-week-long event, held on the Nevada Test and Training Range. Over 5,000 personnel are involved in the final phase of the Weapons School graduate course, resulting in 89 students from 21 separate combat specialties graduating as U.S. Air Force Weapons Officers. The ME Phase includes 10 flying windows, called Vuls, showcasing bomber, transport, command and control, refueling, fighter, surveillance and many more aircraft, all joined with space operators, intelligence officers, special and air operations center personnel to test the newly acquired skills of the Weapons School students. Weapons School is graduate level training for experienced combat Air Force operators and the Mission Employment phase is the last training event prior to graduation. Operations will be flown at night on the following dates: Dec. 2 and 4 from 5 p.m.-10 p.m, Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. and Dec. 7 and 8 from 7 p.m. - midnight.
