The Purple Heart was awarded to retired Airman 1st Class Julius Farrar at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., April 28, 2016. On August 7, 1782 during the revolutionary war, General George Washington issued an order establishing the honorary badge of distinction: The Purple Heart.
