Open House to celebrate Nellis’ legacy of liberty

Gary Nellis (far right on the platform), son of the late 1st Lt. William Harrell Nellis, Nellis Air Force Base’s namesake, attends the base’s dedication ceremony at Nellis AFB, Nev., May 20, 1950. The plaque on display is now at the foot of the base flagpole in front of the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center.
