Preparing for emergencies

September is National Preparedness Month and it is encouraged for every Airman to be prepared before disaster strikes. A critical part of being prepared is having a basic emergency supply kit on hand in the event an unforeseen incident takes place. According to Ready.gov, a basic emergency supply kit includes water, non-perishable food, a battery-powered radio, flashlight with batteries, first-aid kit, can opener, any needed medications, and any additional items the specific household may need. It is also crucial to place the supplies together and keep them fresh, so they are safe to use when needed. Since disasters can strike at any time or place it is imperative to have an emergency kit at home, work and in vehicles. Investing in preparation could be the key in staying safe during a disaster.
