BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Senior Airman John Flowers, from Combined Joint Task Force-82, was the only Air Force member of a Joint Service 21-Gun Salute Team, which fired a volley in honor of the 9-11 memorial service here, Sept. 11, 2009. The memorial was held at 5:17 p.m. Kabul time which is the exact time the first plane hit the World Trade Center's Twin Towers eight years ago. The ceremony was held to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11, 2001. "Doing what I can for my country is important to me," said Airman Flowers, when asked how he felt about being deployed to Afghanistan as well as playing such an important role in the ceremony.
