Pilot receives second Distinguished Flying Cross

U.S. Air Force Col. Tod Fingal, 414th Combat Training Squadron commander, presents the Distinguished Flying Cross decoration to Lt. Col. Daren Sorenson, 414 CTS director of staff, during a presentation ceremony, March 2, 2012 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. Sorenson received the decoration for his actions while flying an F-15E Strike Eagle in eastern Afghanistan. He led a formation of aircraft, providing close air support to coalition forces ambushed in a remote mountain district. At great personal risk, Sorenson and his wingmen destroyed an enemy force and a cave complex used as their regional base of operations, saving the lives of about 50 soldiers.
