MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- An HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, assigned to the 66th Rescue Squadron, a 23d Wing geographically separated unit located at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., was involved in a mishap Thursday evening, during routine training at Nevada Test and Training Range.
The four aircrew were transported to a local Las Vegas hospital and treated for their injuries.
The mission of the 66th RQS is to provide rapidly deployable, expeditionary and agile combat search and rescue forces in response to contingency operations worldwide.
The NTTR, a 2.9 million acre military training area, provides the Department of Defense warfighter a flexible, realistic and multidimensional battle space to conduct testing-tactics development, and advanced training in support of U.S. national interests.
"Our first priority was to make sure the aircrew were safe and I am relieved that were no life threatening injuries,” said Col. Thomas Kunkel, 23d Wing commander. “A board of officers were appointed to investigate the crash and determine the cause.”
The safety investigation is ongoing and more information on the incident will be released as it becomes available.
