An individual was shot and injured by a member of the 99th Security Forces Squadron early Wednesday morning near the main gate of Nellis Air Force Base. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m.

Initial investigation indicates a civilian approached the gate area near the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Craig Road, brandishing and discharging a firearm. After attempts at de-escalation by law enforcement, the individual refused to cooperate and raised his firearm. Law enforcement fired their weapons, wounding the individual in the leg, and immediately provided lifesaving medical aid until emergency medical services arrived.

The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

"The safety and security of Nellis Air Force Base and our personnel are our top priorities," said Col. Jason Glynn, 99th Air Base Wing commander. "Our Security Forces members are highly trained to respond to potential threats, and in this instance, they acted quickly to mitigate a dangerous situation. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation."
