NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Lt. Col. Jeffrey S. Edson will relinquish command of the 58th Rescue Squadron during the 58th RQS Inactivation Ceremony at 9 a.m. June 18, 2025, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
Col. Chuck W. Redmond, commander of the 563rd Rescue Group, will preside over the ceremony.
The mission of the 58th RQS, a geographically separated unit of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, is to organize, train, and equip a rescue force and combat support team that deploy, employ to rescue anyone, anywhere, anytime, and redeploy.
This inactivation is a significant milestone in the transition of Davis-Monthan AFB’s mission set, representing the base’s shift away from its historic A-10 mission and towards a future centered on rescue and special operations. Personnel from the 58th RQS will be redistributed throughout the force to support other rescue missions.
