Aviation Nation returns to Nellis Nov. 11-12

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. – Nellis Air Force Base is proud to present the Aviation Nation 2017 Air and Space Expo. This two-day event Nov. 11 and 12 is open and free to the public.

 

The expo commemorates the U.S. Air Force’s 70th anniversary and the barriers broken in air, space and cyberspace. Several aerial demo teams headlined by the USAF Aerial Demonstration Squadron’s Thunderbirds will participate.

 

The event will highlight the history through modern military accomplishments of America’s aviation through numerous ground displays.

 

The schedule of events for Nov. 11 and 12 are as follows:

.           9 a.m. Buses start running from Las Vegas Motor Speedway to Expo gates

.           10:00 a.m.  Opening Ceremony

.           10:15 a.m.  Various Aerial/Ground Demonstrations (schedule to be announced)

.           2:00 p.m. Thunderbirds Performance

.           5 p.m.  Gates Close

 

Historical displays, community exhibits and family areas will be included in the event. Food, beverages and novelties will be available for purchase.

 

Hundreds of thousands of people typically attend this two-day event, so please plan accordingly to allow enough time to park, process security, and access the event.

 

PARKING: Free public parking will be available at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Visitors will use round-trip shuttle bus transportation to and from Nellis Air Force Base. Nellis has contracted more buses than in previous years in an effort to reduce wait times getting to and from the Air and Space Expo.

 

A handicapped parking area will be designated at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and handicapped-accessible shuttle buses will be provided.

 

Due to security precautions, the recommended access route to the show for the general public is via the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The general public must process through security lines and then ride buses to and from Nellis Air Force Base. No privately owned vehicles without Department of Defense identification will be allowed on base.

 

ITEMS ALLOWED: sunscreen, plastic beverage bottles with factory seal intact (baby bottles exempt), reusable water bottle EXCEPT GLASS (empty for security line, free water stations are available inside), hearing protection (especially for children), wagon or lightweight stroller for children, stadium chair or cushion for free bleacher seating, (collapsible camping chairs are fine, but subject to search).

 

PROHIBITED ITEMS:  weapons of any kind including pocket knives, pocket tools, scissors, box cutters, billy clubs, large heavy chain link jewelry or belts, mace and pepper spray; firearms of any type; toys that resemble firearms, laser pointers; RC aircraft and drones; flammable items and fireworks; pets (except for service animals); spray paint and silly string; outside food, coolers, grills, or glass containers; glass bottles; liquid without factory seal intact (baby bottles are exempt); walkie-talkies, HAM radios and scanners; alcohol and illegal drugs; bicycles and skateboards; scooters, Heelies, roller skates or roller blades; excessively large items and bags (the only exceptions are diaper bags, small purses, and small camera bags at or below 21 inches long, 10 inches wide, and 10 inches deep). Possession and use of Marijuana is illegal on Nellis Air Force Base or any federal installation. This includes both recreational and medicinal.
