99th SFS wins 2013 AF Large Security Forces Unit Award

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. --  Nothing less than hard work and exceptional skills are responsible for the 99th Security Forces Squadron being named the 2013 Air Force Outstanding Large Security Forces Unit.

Recently, the 99th SFS won the Air Combat Command level award for outstanding large unit, but it didn't stop there. The unit has taken it a step further and earned the achievement at the Air Force level.

"I'm so happy that we got a chance to earn all the way to the Air Force level," said Maj. Richard Martin, 99th SFS commander. "I stand before my guys all the time and tell them they are the best and I'm so lucky to be the commander here."

Airmen with the 99th SFS have a wide range of duties. Whether it's training to become an experienced defender or protecting the base from accidents and adversaries, they are equipped with the means needed to be successful.

For the young members of the 99th SFS, Martin has a way for them to stay motivated and keep up the good work for the future.

"One of our priorities is to build leadership at every level" Martin said. "Every five weeks we invite an O-6 or E-9 to speak to our Airmen about leadership and the importance of continuing to build a stronger force."

Members of the squadron have realized the true accomplishment of earning this Air Force-level award.

"In my 27 years of service, this is the first time I've been part of an organization that's won at Air Force level, I don't know how to describe the feeling other than it's just awesome," said Chief Master Sgt. Jeffery Vallery, 99th SFS manager.

With 2014 underway, the 99th SFS continues the great work and strive for the best of the best.
