According to the second amendment of the United States Constitution, every American has the right to keep and bear arms. This protects the right for someone to possess and carry firearms. Although this is our right, there are still certain rules and procedures one must follow such as registering every firearm owned.
Some establishments allow people to openly carry firearms in Nevada.

This means firearms would be carried on the most outer piece of clothing where everyone can see it. Most other establishments require people to carry firearms concealed. To do this, a person must obtain a concealed carry permit and attend a concealed firearms qualification course taught by a certified firearms instructor.

Staff Sgt. Cory Green, 99th Security Forces Squadron combat arms training and maintenance instructor, and Tech. Sgt. Ramone Jenkins, 820th RED HORSE combat arms training and maintenance instructor, teach a Nevada concealed weapons course at outdoor recreation on Nellis AFB. The next class is Nov. 30 at 8 a.m.

"The course itself is designed for military members and their families," Jenkins said. "So since there are [service members] who want to carry, the cruces of the course is to make sure they feel comfortable carrying, know where they can and can't carry, know how to use the weapon, and when to use the weapon."

The course starts off with a classroom session consisting of firearms safety, situational awareness training, Nevada laws relating to carrying concealed weapons and weapon handling techniques. The second part of the class is the firing qualification. Applicants must fire 30 rounds of a semi-automatic or revolver hand gun of their choice. They must score 21 out of 30, firing at a range of three, five and seven meters.

"The course is [giving] them the information they need to know verses giving them eight hours of [unnecessary information]," Jenkins said. "We have had people who have already gotten their concealed carry come through this course [to renew their permit] because of the information given."

The course cost $60 and Jenkins and Green also provides rental guns for $12 for people who do not own their own gun yet.
