More than 20 Airmen from Nellis AFB have volunteered to help people seeking assistance with their taxes. "I am very excited to help my fellow Airmen," said Airman 1st Class Justine Karevites, United States Air Force Warfare Center paralegal. To ensure that these Airmen know how to properly fill out and file the forms, they received four and a half days of training from an IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program instructor. At the end of the training, they were officially certified by the VITA program to voluntarily help people file their taxes. Although tax assistance will be made available to all active-duty service members, retirees and their families, the tax center staff would like to see younger Airmen take advantage of the tax assistance provided for free. "This year we are primarily focusing on E-1s through E-5s, O-1s, O-2s, and retirees who don't have access to any other option; however, tax assistance will be available to all active-duty military members retirees and families regardless of rank," said Capt. Lindsay Cronin, USAFWC assistant staff judge advocate. Appointments are not required, however please call ahead to ensure that volunteers are present. The number is 702-679-0555.
