ALS honors new graduates Published Jan. 7, 2015 By Nellis Air Force Base Airman Leadership School NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Ninety-six Airmen completed their first professional military education milestone by graduating from Airman Leadership School here as part of Class 15-A Dec. 18. The school at Nellis AFB prepares more than 400 senior airmen annually to supervise and lead Air Force work teams and foster a commitment to the profession of arms through communication and leadership training. Of those Airmen who pass through, a small percentage receive individual recognition for demonstrating superior performance throughout their six weeks of instruction. "These awards are important because they are presented to the students who have demonstrated superior leadership and performance in academics," said Master Sgt. Shawn Hansen, 99th Force Support Squadron Airman Leadership School commandant. "Demonstrating superior leadership and meeting high performance standards is vital to leading future Airmen." Senior Airman Jeffrey Boggs, 432nd Operations Support Squadron, received the John L. Levitow Award, the highest award presented at all levels of enlisted PME, which is given to the top graduate in the class. The recipient of this award not only excelled academically, but also exemplified the highest standards of a professional military member. Senior Airman Brandon Love, 432nd Maintenance Squadron, received the Academic Achievement Award, which is presented to the student who demonstrated dedication to the core value of "Excellence in All We Do" and achieved the highest overall academic score. Senior Airman Stephen Massie, 57th Operations Support Squadron, received the Leadership Award, which is presented to the student who displayed superior leadership, exceptional military bearing and utilized effective interpersonal skills. Individual recognition is not only beneficial to the recipient, but also to leadership and future ALS students. "There are those Airmen who exceed the standard. Publically acknowledging them gives future ALS students something to strive for," said Staff Sgt. Ebony Henry, 99th FSS ALS instructor. "It also gives leadership the opportunity to see qualities in their Airmen they may not have seen before." The following Airmen were the distinguished graduates of the class. These students were outstanding in objective and performance evaluations, demonstrated leadership, had superior performances as team players and finished in the top 10 percent of the class.
