This year's annual Retiree Appreciation Day, hosted by Nellis Air Force Base, will begin Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m. in the Thunderbird Hangar, with more than 60 agencies offering their services to all attendees.

Col. Michael Bartley, the 99th Air Base Wing commander encourages all Nellis personnel to join the local and regional retirees and spend time with them throughout the day's activities.

"As part of our Air Force 60th Anniversary celebration, this event offers an excellent opportunity to rub elbows with those that paved the road our military continues to follow today. We owe a debt of gratitude to our veterans for all they and their families have given to this nation," said Colonel Bartley.

"This celebration demonstrates our appreciation by hosting Retiree Appreciation Day, and gives all of our on- and off-base agencies an opportunity to offer their improved services to our retirees," Colonel Bartley said.

Project officer to this year's event, Master Sgt. Kevin Gruenwald, 99th Communications Squadron photo shop superintendent also expressed his enthusiasm for this year's event.

"We've received a lot of support and volunteers ensure this is a special event for everyone involved," said Sergeant Gruenwald. "The day is full of activities, and the agencies attending are standing by to assist everyone who needs help."

The scheduled events include the information fair at the Thunderbird Hangar, entertainment throughout the day, door prize drawings, and visits to the ever-popular Threat Training Facility.

The information fair includes health screening opportunities, educational consultants, banking information and other areas important to all retirees.

The event is also organized so retirees can come out and take care of a lot of special needs in one day - getting ID cards, update records, and get TriCare information.
