Federal employees and Nellis Air Force Base personnel will soon have a chance to show their support for the charities of their choice when the Nellis Combined Federal Campaign for 2007 begins here Oct. 1.

The National CFC began its three-month annual charity drive Sept. 1, with hopes of raising more than $270 million nationally.

The CFC is an annual charity drive that offers all federal employees and military personnel more than 20,000 different organizations that they may donate to.

"Those donating can choose between thousands of different types of charities, from those affected by hurricane Katrina and different medical charities to giving money to the local community, everyone can find something to support," said Mr. Ed Luckett, Nevada CFC campaign director.

Each participating organization conducts the campaign in a six-week time frame that falls between Sep. 1 and Dec. 15.

"Our goal for this year is to make contact with the entire base population. Everyone should be able to find a charity to support, we just have to let them know how to support them," said 1st Lt. Jeff Henderson, Nellis AFB CFC assistant organizer.

A significant change in this year's campaign is the code used to designate each charity. In previous years, all charities were assigned a four-digit code. This year, due to an increase in the number of charities, a five-digit code will be used. Those donating should be aware of the small change so that the charity they are donating to gets the money that they need, said Mr. Luckett.

One of the ways that members can choose to donate to their charities is by setting up the charities in a direct deposit account, so the money comes straight out of the individual's paycheck.
