More than 300 Nellis children made some new, exotic friends at the Nellis Air Force Base Youth Center March 20, when SeaWorld's Animal Ambassador Team visited the base as part of SeaWorld San Diego's "Shamu's Worlds of Discovery Tour."

The tour, which travels to nine different schools and public locations throughout Utah, California, Nevada and Arizona, highlighted the park's education and conservation programs.

Much of the presentation centered on being environmentally conscious, recycling and disposing of waste properly.

"We need to do everything we can to make sure our animal friends have a safe place to live and grow," said Julie Scardina, a San Diego SeaWorld animal ambassador and presentation leader, as a pair of trained, tropical birds flew over the children's heads.

The exotic animals the team brought from San Diego SeaWorld, including tropical birds, flamingoes, a horned turtle, and Pete and Penny the magellanic penguins, were shown while the presentation was conducted, and the children were given facts about each animal.

One girl even got to dress up like an emperor penguin, which at full height stands as high as a grown adult.

The children were also offered the chance to win a SeaWorld Family 4-Pack, consisting of four park admission tickets and four passes to SeaWorld's newest attractions, "Breakfast with Elmo and Friends."
