Nellis Air Force Base Arts and Crafts Center provides a learning environment with opportunities for Airmen to save money.

The center provides expert guidance for Airmen to learn a multitude of new hobbies, while providing a safe environment to house all the tools, supplies and expertise needed for the crafts.

It's best known for creating many of the quarterly and annual awards as well as many retirement shadow boxes and gifts.

Many of the different services are offered for airmen including wood working, glass working, metal, laser and custom engraving, embroidery, and sublimation.

"We are the cheapest, as we know, in town for any of our services," said Myrna Loughery, 99th Force Support Squadron Arts and Crafts Center laser engraver. "Also, we do price match."

The center currently provides a framing class for Airmen to attend.

"We host a four week framing class that's once a week," Loughery said. "It's about three hours long. With that you get a certificate showing you've completed the course and you get to come in and do your own framing, so that saves you some money."

Loughery said the center is currently trying to expand the type and number of classes available for Airmen to take.

"We're trying to get classes back in here, and we're looking for instructors to teach different types of arts and craft related things," she said.

By providing more opportunities for Airmen to learn new skills and hobbies, the Arts and Craft center staff hopes more Airmen will utilize the services available to them.

"If anyone is looking to teach any kind of class they are more than welcome to bring it to our attention," Loughery said.
