HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- The Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1163 at Hill Air Force Base was recognized recently as the association’s Division 6 Legislative Chapter of the Year.

In addition, Senior Airman Lelauni Sanders, a member of Chapter 1163, earned the Division 6 Airman of the Year award.

Master Sgt. James Zwiebel, AFSA Chapter 1163 past president, said this division-level recognition is a testament to the “health” of the chapter, as well as the “amazing amount of participation and talent” of its chapter members such as Sanders.

“Senior Airman Sanders is an outstanding Airman from her primary duties to her additional duties as our Airman activities coordinator,” Zwiebel said. “She organized First Term Airmen Center dinners, completed her Community College of the Air Force degree, earned advanced contracting certifications, and volunteered for many fundraisers throughout the year. Anything we ask of here, she is present and all in.”

Zwiebel said the chapter topped 21 others to win chapter of the year honors. Now, Sanders and Chapter 1163 will go on to compete at the international level. The winners will be revealed this July at the AFSA Professional Education and Development Seminar Symposium in Florida.

The Air Force Sergeants Association is a federally-chartered, veterans service organization representing the professional and personal interests of its members, Total Forces and their families. The members are organized in 125 chapters throughout the world.

Chapter 1163 currently has 487 members from across the state of Utah and is known as “The Beehive Chapter,” a nickname that pays homage to the state's emblem and nickname – The Beehive State. Chapter meetings are held at 11 a.m. the second Friday of each month at Hill’s Airman Recreation Center.

“We want all of Utah’s service members, retirees, and family members to join us as we advocate for military quality of life on base and across Utah,” Zwiebel said. “From member to executive council officer, everyone has a place in Chapter 1163. If you choose to join us and get involved, you will not be alone.”
