PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The Military Construction (MILCON) project at the Peterson Air Force Base Main Clinic, Building 959, continues to progress with the project wrapping up operations for Phase 1 recently. This marks the transition from the longest phase of the project into the second of three total phases.
While the project moves according to plan, with a projected final completion of January 2022, our COVID-19 response efforts have required the medical group to make adjustments that were not included in the original construction plan.
“Our medical beneficiaries and staff have a proven history of [flexibility],” said Lt. Col. Lisa Guzman, 21st Medical Group clinic senior administrator. “We have made similar modernizations to our facilities across the Air Force Medical Service; however, shifting infection control and social distancing guidelines during this pandemic have added another layer of unique operational adjustments. The ability of our patients and staff to adapt and to overcome these changes has been truly remarkable.”
Effective January 14, 2021, multiple departments will relocate to begin Phase 2 operations. Various scheduled renovations include the main clinic parking lot, the main entrance and the main medical waiting area.
Once Phase 2 is complete, these areas will be open for business and the construction project will move into its third and final stage. The end of Phase 2 will result in most major departments moving into their final location. The location changes will not impact the availability of services offered at the Peterson AFB medical clinic.
The most significant changes, beginning in late January, are designated parking areas. The main parking lot will be closed for renovations from January 14, 2021, through July 2021. As a result, patients will enter on the opposite side of the main building, either into the temporary medical facility (shown on map) or the main clinic.
Entry control point staff are available to assist patients. Handicap parking spaces will be designated as well. Additionally, staff parking will be shifted to overflow locations at surrounding facilities, which would not be possible without the support and understanding of our neighboring base agencies.
