99th Force Support Squadron's Library set to close Published Sept. 27, 2013 By By Staff Sgt. N.B. 432nd Wing/432nd Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Force Support Squadron Library at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., will be closing its doors due to ongoing budget constraints Sept. 30. Air Combat Command has eliminated the funding to maintain library services throughout the command for fiscal year 2014. "We are exploring options to retain as many of the services the library offered as possible by transferring them to other FSS areas," said Col. Barry Cornish, 99th Air Base Wing commander. In the meantime, Airmen and their families are asked to seek library type services at other off base facilities or at various locations around Las Vegas. The 99th FSS Education Service Flight will still provide College Level Examination Program and Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support tests without interruption. "We are exploring the feasibility of transferring CLEP and DANTES testing material to the education office," said Connie Davis, library director. "At this point we are not sure what the disposition of the study materials will be but will distribute information as it becomes available." In addition, Transparent Language services will no longer be available to Creech and Nellis Airmen. "Unfortunately, this service will no longer be available. The Air Force contract with Transparent Language requires [people] to come into a base library and sign up in person for an account," Davis said. Patrons with accounts established at the library will continue to receive services from any of the Las Vegas library branches. Anyone who still has "Nellis Library" listed as their home library in the Las Vegas-Clark County or North Las Vegas Library systems will be automatically changed to Sunrise Library Oct. 1. Hold requests will also have the pick-up location changed to Sunrise Library. Patrons who currently have library books or fines are asked to return and pay fines at any Las Vegas-Clark County or North Las Vegas Library branch. Those seeking access to wireless internet on Nellis AFB are asked to go the Time Out Sports Lounge, the Club or Rickenbacker's located in the Nellis Inn. The 99th FSS also offers recreational computer use at the Club and governmental computer support at the airman and family readiness center. Airmen are instructed to visit the AF Portal to check out additional library resources available to them. This can be accomplished be accessing the library resources tab and clicking databases and online resources tab. For more information on these changes, visit www.nellisforcesupport.com.
