99th SFS Warrior Challenge preparation begins, teamwork emphasized Published Nov. 19, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Christopher Hubenthal 99th Air Base wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Security Forces Squadron challenges Airmen to assemble teams of four to compete in the 99th SFS Warrior Challenge to be held Dec. 6. The event is designed to test teams resilience and teamwork, building a culture of Airmen with the mindset to choose to invest in themselves rather than choose a destructive lifestyle. Teams will compete in seven different stations to include weapons assembly, shoot house, pushups and sit-ups, High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle push, tire drag, ruck march and a red man battle. Teams will be required to assemble two M-4 rifles and two M-9 pistols during the weapons assembly challenge. Weapons will be field stripped according to regulations. The shoot house portion of the challenge will have team members moving as a group to clear three rooms. Each room will have three targets set up and two rounds will be required to hit each target. During the pushups and sit-ups challenge, teams will be required to correctly accomplish 400 pushups and 400 sit-ups as a team. If a team does not complete the repetitions, a time penalty of 30 seconds will be enforced for every ten repetitions less than 400. The HMMWV push will challenge teams to move a HMMWV a required distance. One team member will be required to remain behind the wheel of the vehicle to control steering and breaking. The tire drag challenge will require each team as a whole to move a 5 ton tire a set distance. During the ruck march, team members will carry a weighted ruck sack a required distance. Team members will move as a team, never getting further than arm's length from the other members. Observers will be posted at each corner of the course for safety, and to enforce the arm's length rule. If a team fails to obey the arm's length rule, a five minute penalty will be added to their time at the end of the course. The final challenge will have each team engage two opponents in Red Man pads. Each team member will be given a padded training Armament Systems and Procedures. Teams will be required to disable the Red Man by landing strikes to the arms and legs, but are not allowed to strike the head.. Time will stop when the last Red Man is disabled. The Warrior Challenge is designed to test teams' physical, mental and social capabilities through these series of challenges. The winner of the competition will be the team with the fastest time in each division. Since security forces teams may have an advantage over other teams who do not train in these areas regularly, security forces teams will not be eligible to be the overall winner. Instead, security forces teams will compete against each other for top flight honors.
