Holiday dinner offers Airmen cheer while away from home Published Dec. 18, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Thomas Spangler 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- With the holiday season fast approaching, the Crosswinds Dining Facility is joining in the festive spirit by hosting a holiday dinner for active-duty military members, guardsmen, reservists, military retirees and their families Dec. 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. The holiday dinner is a chance for Airmen and their families to celebrate the holidays on base, said Tech. Sgt. Meloney Natal, 99th Force Support Squadron production manager. The holiday dinner is also a chance for Airmen who won't be able to go home to experience some holiday cheer on base. "The holiday meal is a home away from home meal for Airmen who can't take leave," said Airman 1st Class Jacqueline Jones, 99th FSS store room clerk. The menu will consist of traditional holiday dishes like herbed roast turkey, steamship round of beef, glazed baked ham and all of the usual trimmings. The cost to eat will be a flat rate of $8 per plate. For meal card holders, the dinner will be free. To help keep the spirit of the holidays, the dining facility will be decorated, and in addition, a baker will prepare and decorate a special display cake to commemorate the holidays. The entire food service team will prepare this event, and leadership from the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, 57th Wing and 99th Air Base Wing will be there to help serve the holiday dinner.
