NCOs participate in leadership classes Published Feb. 5, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Thomas Spangler 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership Development Course is a class for reserve and active-duty NCOs to learn and work together in a classroom setting while fine-tuning their leadership and management skills. The course is only open to junior NCOs. "We want to focus on the midline supervisors," said Master Sgt. John Lewis, 926th Force Support Squadron chief of group training. The course is 10 duty days, and the latest NCOLPD began Jan. 27 and ends Feb. 7. The first three days of both weeks are taught by a civilian instructor from Central Texas College. The last two days of each week are taught by military instructors who will teach the students how to apply the skills they have learned from the previous days' lessons. Leadership and management skills are taught through both interactive lecture and group activities. "A lot of management and team building exercises are taught in the classes" he added. "In class, the students made group presentations on past Air Force leaders. The groups analyzed what made them good leaders, and how they impacted the Air Force" said Brent Hastey, Central Texas College and NCOLPD instructor.
