Christopher Short assumed command of the 57th Wing from Brig. Gen. Charles Moore, commander of the 57th WG, in front of Airmen at the Thunderbird Hangar Feb. 28. Short, who has been selected for promotion to brigadier general, comes to Nellis after commanding the 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. "Col. Short was carefully selected and is the perfect choice for this command and we all know that he will lead the 57th WG to even greater heights," said Brig. Gen. Jay Silveria, commander of the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center here at Nellis. "He brings a wealth of tactical and operational experience [to Nellis]." Short has served as commander for the 492nd Fighter Squadron at Royal Air Force Lakenheath and has held staff positions on the headquarters Air Force staff, and as the deputy chief of staff for U.S. Pacific Command. "It is an important day for the 57th WG, a wing that is one of the most storied and most diverse wings in the Air Force," Silveria said. "The four groups, 39 squadrons and 12 geographically separated units have made it world renowned for its threat replication, its maintenance, its advanced training, its precision flying and its all domain integrated warfare." When Moore relinquished command to Short, Short acknowledged the hard work that lies ahead with commanding the 57th WG. "It is an honor to take the wing from someone I respect and admire, a fellow classmate and lifelong friend," Short said. "You are a tough act to follow, but the 57th WG is incredibly well prepared due to your outstanding leadership." Short recognized the Airmen for their hard work to make the 57th WG what it is today. "To the men and women of the 57th WG, I am truly honored and humbled to join this team," Short said. "It is obvious that if our Air Force is going to trade capacity for capability, the 57th Wing will be on point, leading the way." Being proud to be a part of the 57th WG, Short described what excited him most about coming to Nellis. "What excites me the most is the opportunity to serve with the best and brightest Airmen in our force, the best Airman in the best Air Force in the world -- the men and women of the 57th WG," Short said.
