Families reunite after deployment Published April 30, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Jake Carter 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Airmen from the 820th RED HORSE returned here from deployment April 28. Approximately 140 820th RED HORSE Airmen returned home from multiple locations throughout Southwest Asia, ready to be reunited with their families. "It's great to be back home, but I wish my wife could be here," said Tech. Sgt. Nicholas Urban, RED HORSE member. "She will be here next week, but it's great to see my boy." Urban, whose spouse, Tech. Sgt. Colleen Urban, 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs broadcast producer, has been deployed to Southwest Asia while Nicholas was deployed to Afghanistan. "She will be with us next week, so I will be glad to see her as well as be with my boy," Nicholas said. RED HORSE is a self-sufficient unit specializing in heavy construction of airfields, buildings and utility systems in harsh deployed environments worldwide. The squadron provides heavy repair and construction capabilities when requirements exceed normal civil engineer unit capabilities. The RED HORSE accomplished many tasks during their seven-month deployment. "We picked up off [in complete] projects from the last team and picked up a couple that we completed from start to finish," Nicholas said. "It was good opportunity for the new guys to get out there and gain experience." The deployment, which lasted seven months, provided the RED HORSE team the opportunity to plan and construct facilities/infrastructure to support contingency operations. "Besides the projects we were working on, training was probably one of our biggest accomplishments." Nicholas said. With the training RED HORSE Airmen received during their deployment, Col. Aaron Young, 820th RED HORSE commander, is ready to have them back. "They were away from home for seven months as they attended Combat Skills Training enroute to their deployed locations," Young said. "We welcome home those Airmen." With families and fellow Airmen cheering and welcoming home squadron members, RED HORSE is ready to bring their deployed Airmen back into the work environment after they enjoy much deserved time off with their loved ones. "We are looking forward to working with you all," Young said. "We are excited to have you back."
