The peak summer move season for service members who are permanently changing stations generally runs from May 15 to Sept 15 and is just around the corner.

The 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron Traffic Management Office has some helpful tips to make your move as successful as possible.

Once you have orders, go to the Defense Personal Property System website at http://www.move.mil and complete your initial counseling as soon as possible. You'll also enter your desired move dates, pick up location and an estimate of the amount of household goods you plan to move.

As you enter your information in DPS, enter both primary and alternate move dates. Please be flexible with these dates. The earlier you plan, the more likely it is that you will receive the dates you want. Provide a valid e-mail address and phone numbers so that you can be easily reached throughout your move. If you encounter problems during self-counseling, contact the DPS helpdesk at 1-800-462-2176, "Option 5."

When you complete the self-counseling, bring all your paperwork TMO in building 11. TMO personnel will look over your paperwork and ensure everything is correct and entered into the Defense Processing System. They can also answer any questions you have about your shipment, such as entitlements or allowable items. You may experience longer than normal wait times due to high customer volume.

Remember to keep copies of all paperwork submitted in a folder that will travel with you, along with phone numbers and points of contact from the Transportation Service Provider conducting your move. Keep in contact with your TSP throughout the move.

If your TSP doesn't contact you within 10 days of primary pack out and pick up dates or if they do not arrive on the projected move day, contact Nellis TMO immediately at 702-652-6683.

Once your household goods have been picked up by the TSP, the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office handles all issues with the TSP and your move. The JPPSO servicing Nellis is JPPSO-Colorado Springs. They can be reached at 719-554-9295.

Important note: Professional Books, Papers and Equipment aka. "Pro-Gear" has been redefined. PBP&E includes household goods in a member's or employee's possession needed for the performance of official duties at the next or a later permanent duty station. PBP&E will be limited to a maximum net weight of 2,000 pounds with no authority to waive the limitation.

Excluded from PBP&E:
· Personal computer equipment and peripheral devices.
· Memorabilia including awards, plaques or other objects presented for past performance (includes going away gifts).
· Table service including flatware (including serving pieces), dishes (including serving pieces, salvers and their heating units), other utensils, and glassware.
· Other items of a professional nature that will not be necessary at the next/subsequent PDS, such as text books from previous schools unrelated to future duties, personal books, even if used as part of a past professional reading program or course of instruction and reference material that ordinarily would be available at the next/subsequent PDS either in hard copy or available on the internet.
