Mobile maintenance keeps you driving Published June 17, 2014 By Senior Airman Christopher Tam 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Having a flat tire or a dead battery on your government owned or leased vehicle can limit your productivity for the day, but mobile maintenance can help you out at any time day or night. The 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle management flight customer service section can provide mobile maintenance at your convenience. "Mobile maintenance is normally for minor repairs that can be accomplished on a vehicle that does not exceed two hours to repair," said Master Sgt. Juan Torres, 99th LRS mobile maintenance section chief. "Also, mobile maintenance can be used to perform periodic maintenance and inspections on vehicles not easily brought to the maintenance shop or unable to enter the maintenance shop due to size." Mobile maintenance provides customers a variety of services no matter what the issue may be. "The repairs are diverse but the most common repairs are vehicle battery jump starts, coolant leaks, fuel issues and engine component malfunctions," Torres said. Mobile maintenance does not support any privately owned vehicles; however they are able to support any GOV with a valid registration number. "There is roughly 1,100 GOV's assigned to Nellis that we support," Torres said. "We also support Creech and Fort Erwin as necessary." Being able to support any mission essential GOV any time of the day is important when it comes to mobile maintenance. "We have standby crews [available] 24/7 for emergency response and we average about 15 mobile calls per day, 75 per week and over 300 per month," Torres said. "We provide a fast response repair team to key areas throughout the base and this provides a quicker response to users as well as dispersed vehicles at or near an aircraft ramp area in support of air freight or aircraft maintenance vehicles." Being able to provide mobile maintenance has its rewards. "I love the feeling of actually seeing our contribution to the mission because most of the time mechanics fix a vehicle and they never see it again," said Tech. Sgt. Kevin Lecy, 99th LRS customer service NCO in charge. "We see the mission of Nellis continue right after we fix the vehicle."
