Red Flag 14-3 just days away Published July 9, 2014 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- With Red Flag 14-3 set to commence on July 14, base officials would like to remind Southern Nevada residents that they may notice increased military aircraft activity as part of the exercise, which is scheduled to end July 25. Red Flag is a realistic combat training exercise involving the air, space and cyber forces of the United States and its allies, and is conducted on the vast bombing and gunnery ranges of the Nevada Test and Training Range. According to the 414th Combat Training Squadron's official factsheet, a typical Red Flag exercise involves a variety of attack, fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, electronic warfare aircraft, air superiority aircraft, airlift support, search and rescue aircraft, aerial refueling aircraft, command and control aircraft, as well as ground-based command and control, space and cyber forces. According to the official Red Flag 14-3 press release, this exercise will include aircraft from 16 different U.S. Air Force squadrons, C-130s and C-160s from the French air force, and F-16Cs, F-15SGs and CH-47s from the Singapore air force. Since 1975, Red Flag has provided training for more than 440,000 military personnel, including more than 145,000 aircrew members flying more than 385,000 sorties and logging more than 660,000 hours of flying time.
