Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Officers School graduates 100th student Published Jan. 3, 2007 By Senior Airman Travis Edwards Nellis AFB Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE -- The United States Air Force Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Officer School (AMMOS) graduated their 100th student at a ceremony for Class 06B at the Officers' Club here Dec. 13. "This marks an amazing milestone for us," said Lt. Col. Jeffery Decker, commandant of USAF AMMOS. "Starting with 10 members graduating in the first class in 2003 to having the 106th officer graduate in the 10th class, shows the dedication and perseverance these captains and majors have for bettering themselves and the Air Force." USAF AMMOS is a 14-week academically-intensive course that focuses on expeditionary logistics and expands the knowledge and capabilities of officers in the maintenance and munitions career field using the six master processes of the agile combat support construct. It is also the maintenance and munitions version of the weapons school program for aviators, space and intelligence officers and is conducted three times per year. Some of the lessons include aircraft scheduling, sortie generation/regeneration, weapons safety, joint integration, expeditionary leadership, advanced munitions operations and logistics command and control. In addition, the students visit both Air Combat Command and Air Mobility Command Headquarters to gain a logistics command perspective, Beale Air Force Base, Calif., for advanced munitions buildup operations instruction and Travis Air Force Base, Calif., to learn about contingency response groups. "These tours expand the academic instruction they receive here at Nellis with a practical application of both tactical execution and the operational art of maintenance, munitions and logistics" said Colonel Decker. The last part of the course is the mission employment stage, which is similar to the Weapons School's mission employment phase, where the students undergo an intensive exercise with two sitting maintenance group commanders providing mentoring for the students as well as evaluating their performance. At the conclusion of the mission employment exercise, AMMOS students are officially complete with the course of instruction to return home or in many cases follow-on assignments to fulfill their core responsibilities as a USAF AMMOS graduate: Producer, Advisor and Instructor.
