Fifty-one years have gone by since the day the Nellis paper began and from that time the Nellis public affairs office was always in charge of gathering all the information.
That changes today.

Due to Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century, total control has been shifted to our publisher, Aerotech News and Review. This will save the Air Force more than 1,000 man hours a year, just at Nellis.

"One of the best jobs in the Air Force is being the editor of the base newspaper -- but in the information age, doing newspapers is a bit archaic and a huge drain on resources. It's a good move for Public Affairs, but I'm still going to miss it being in our office," said Master Sgt. Tonya Keebaugh, public affairs superintendent.

This kind of thing is actually happening all around the Air Force.

"We are looking forward to continuing the great tradition set 51 years ago," said Lila Edwards, the new editor of the civilianized Bullseye. "We intend to give the Nellis community the best coverage ever and maintain the high standards the public affairs office has set."

So now, instead of writing stories for the newspaper, the PA office will write for the Nellis public Web site.

"Having written and edited on and off for the past 12 years, I can truly say it has been a learning experience. I have seen the Bullseye go through many changes and I'm happy to have been a part of that," said Martine Ramos.

Not only did the Bullseye get second place in Air Combat Command's media contest for best tabloid-sized newspaper, but their layout and design expert, Elizabeth VanderHoek also brought a second-place win to Nellis with a graphic that went with a story on Red Flag.

For article ideas, people can still contact the Nellis PA office, but for all briefs and living information, people can contact the Bullseye office directly at 876-9039.

Editor's note:I thank you for letting me serve you as the editor for more than a year. I will look back on all the experience and friends I have made while working with all of you.

Overall I will miss being able to talk with the many different faces at Nellis and Creech and learning about all the different careers and offices.I know I speak for everyone at the Nellis PA office when I say it has been a pleasure to be able to put together an award-winning product for all of Nellis and Creech to enjoy.

All of us in public affairs look forward to serving the Nellis and Creech communities on www.nellis.af.mil.
