F-15 loses canopy after takeoff Published April 4, 2007 Nellis AFB Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- An F-15C Eagle on temporary duty status here lost the aircraft canopy at approximately 10:30 a.m. while over the Nevada Test and Training Range in the Elgin/Caliente military operating area. The pilot was able to land the aircraft without further incident. Personnel from Nellis are searching for the canopy on the range at this time. The aircraft took off at 10:18 a.m. bound for a test mission. It safely landed back on base after the incident at 10:39 a.m. The aircraft and pilot are assigned to the 85th Test and Evaluation Squadron from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. A board of officers will investigate the cause of the incident and additional information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
