Team Nellis and Creech ... Start your engines for the Airmen's Auto Event weekend here on the Nellis flightline April 14 and 15.

The two-day event featured a free drifting class and afforded people the chance to race their cars on the flightline for a small fee.

April 14 featured a free drifting class. Air Force members, their families and civilians were able to work with a drifting professional and learn the basics of this new sport.

During the autocross April 15, participants raced one at a time on a course marked by rubber cones; the overall military winner received a trophy, provided by Lt. Col. Ronald Hanselman, coordinator for the event, and the best driver on Nellis and Creech bragging rights.

People were able to hone their driving skills, learn how to control their vehicles in certain situations and improve their driving skills, all in a controlled environment.

"The autocross gave Airmen a safe alternative to racing on the streets of Las Vegas," said Senior Airman Michael Newman, the coordinator for the drifting event. "Drifting is an up-and-coming auto sport, so, instead of Airmen learning on the streets, we provided them with a controlled, safe alternative."
