Tonya Keebaugh Nellis Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Amongst the glitz and glamour found on the Las Vegas Strip, will be a sea of blue as the Air Force celebrates its 60th Anniversary as an independent branch of service this year at The Mirage beginning at 6 p.m., Sept. 8. "The theme for the 60th Anniversary Ball is 'Heritage to Horizons,'" said Maj. David Fitzgerald, deputy commander of the 99th Communications Squadron. "We are pulling together a ball that will both honor our heroes of the past as well as the present." In attendance at the ball this year will be two of the remaining nine Doolittle Raiders, two Tuskegee Airmen, several former POWs, as well as local Nellis heroes from the current Global War on Terror. "A big party at an awesome venue on the Strip celebrating our Air Force's 60th Anniversary sounds like a great reason for anyone to attend," said the major. "And when you factor in the opportunity to recognize the living legends planning to attend as well as our heroes of the present, this really is an event that should not be missed." Tickets are on sale now till Aug. 31 from unit first sergeants. Other events planned for celebration of the Air Force's 60th are the Air Force Week in Las Vegas, Nov. 4-11, and the Nellis Air Show Nov. 10-11.
