Nellis airfield ops flight brings in awards

The 57th Operations Support Squadron Airfield Operations Flight won 10 annual Air Combat Command airfield operations awards in 2007, including being named Airfield Operations Flight Complex of the Year. 

Winners are:

· Maj. Eric Schmidt -- Colonel Derrel L. Dempsey Officer of the Year
· Senior Master Sgt. Scott Rawlings - Air Traffic Control Enlisted Manager of the Year
· Timothy Hanley -- ATC Civilian Controller of the Year
· Staff Sgt. Robert Gonzalez -- ATC Training Achievement
· Master Sgt. Paul Portugal -- Airfield Management Senior NCO of the Year
· Senior Airman Robert Grotfend, -- Airfield Management Airman of the Year
· Tech. Sgt. Venus Applebury -- Airfield Management Training Achievement
· Robert Brabant -- Terminal Instrument Procedures Specialist of the Year
· Tech. Sgt. Brandon Sharp -- ATC Systems Specialist of the Year

The airfield operations flight manages the largest airfield and ATC operation in the Air Force. It is comprised of the control tower, Nellis ATC facility and airfield management, and is responsible for 121 personnel, 12,500 square miles of airspace, 2 million square yards of concrete, $12 million in facilities and equipment, and the largest number of navigational aids and radars in the Air Force.
