The first unit of the Landings at Nellis privatized family housing was dedicated here in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

Karen Apple and 4-year-old Juliana Ollis cut the ribbon to the new home.

Mrs. Apple, the daughter of the third Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Richard D. Kisling, cut the ribbon to open the original houses in the area on Jan. 15, 1960.

Juliana Ollis is the daughter of Senior Airman Nathan Ollis and Caitlin Ollis; they will be the first family to move into the new housing area.

Two streets in the Landings at Nellis were also dedicated during the ceremony. The streets, Richard Kisling Drive and John Chapman Parkway, were named for two Air Force heroes, Chief Kisling and Tech. Sgt. John A. Chapman, a combat controller posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross for his heroism in combat against enemy forces in Afghanistan.

Nellis AFB housing was privatized May 1, 2006. The project involves demolishing 915 older units, renovating 363 newer units and constructing 815 new homes. Construction is expected to be complete in 2011.
