99th Logistics Readiness Squadron wins 2007 Daedalian Award Published March 25, 2008 By Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Wheaton 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron earned the "2007 Air Combat Command Major General Warren R. Carter Logistics Effectiveness Award," also known as the Daedalian Award, for providing outstanding logistics support for the command. "Congratulations to the hard-working professionals of the 99th LRS," said Maj. Gen. P. David Gillett, Jr., Air Combat Command director of logistics. "Your achievements set the standard for logistics readiness excellence across ACC." "This validates what everyone in the squadron has known all along, that we are the best at what we do in ACC," said Lt. Col. Maria Garcia, 99th LRS commander. "I'm very proud of each and every one of our LRS family." The Order of Daedalian Foundation established the annual award in 1962, honoring the unit that achieves the best supply effectiveness record in the Air Force in support of mission aircraft and/or weapons. "The work that we accomplish is quite amazing for a squadron ... what we do compares quite favorably to what major commands do," said Colonel Garcia. The 99th LRS executed the Air Force's first MQ-9 Reaper deployment, validated the LRS evolution by transitioning from 7 to 4 flights, and deployed 224 Airmen to 16 forward operating bases in Iraq and Afghanistan. The unit also earned the USAF's Drake Award and American Petroleum Institute Award as the best fuels flight and won Nevada's Emissions Award as owners of ACC's largest vehicle fleet, said Colonel Garcia. Next, the squadron will compete with nominees of other major commands to lay claim to the Air Force-level Daedalian award.
