Airmen from across Nellis received the 99th Air Base Wing command chief master sergeant's STAR Award during an informal ceremony here April 30.

Command Chief Master Sgt. Robert Brooks presented his award to Tech. Sgt. Michael Wimmer, Staff Sgts. Kristine Kays and Brandon Bingham, Senior Airman Sarah Glenn, and Airman 1st Class Justin Ward for their efforts as part of the Airmen Against Drunk Driving Council.

The Nellis Airmen help to save lives every weekend spending their time working the phones, driving Airmen home and soliciting for AADD volunteers. Additionally, the council ensures volunteer drivers are reimbursed for successfully keeping Airmen safe.

It's important to have the AADD program here because it helps the entire base community to save lives, said Airman Ward.

"To date this year, we've saved 659 lives," said Airman Ward. "That's 659 Airmen who aren't out there hurting themselves or other people."

AADD council members have always relied on the pledges of volunteer Airmen to answer the call of looking out for their own.

"We're always looking for more volunteers. If Airmen just put in a few hours a year, they can help save someone's life," Airman Ward explained.

Chief Brooks' STAR Award is a monthly award given to exceptional behind-the-scene performers for distinguished mission or community efforts.
