As the largest solar power array in the United States was completed December 2007 on Nellis territory and xeriscaping projects transformed the face of the base, Nellis energy program received its due recognition, being bestowed three major 2008 awards for its efforts in energy and water conservation.

Sept. 16 Nellis Solar Power Team was presented the 2008 Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award. Sept. 23 Nellis AFB, in partnership with MMA Renewable Ventures, SunPower Corporation, and Nevada Power Company, has been selected as the winner of the Solar Electric Power Association Award for Solar Business Achievement in the category of Partnering for Success. Oct. 22 Michelle Price, base energy manager, and Jeffrey Blazi, base utility manager, received the 2008 Federal Energy and Water Management Award.

From new landscapes to "Turn it off" policy to utilization of renewable energy, Nellis AFB is eading the way in energy conservation. Besides helping to save more than a million of tax-payers dollars annually, aforementioned projects are also environmentally friendly as they promote clean energy and good stewardship of natural resources.
