Dec. 19 is Wingman Day - "Know your Wingman" Published Dec. 9, 2008 By Senior Master Sgt. Eldon L. Dewitt II 99th Security Forces Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Dec. 19 is Nellis Wingman Day. Since the commencement of the Wingman concept of "Airmen taking care of Airmen", each year a day is set aside for leadership and Airmen to pause from the various Nellis missions to discuss important issues affecting the Air Force family. Wingman Day is more than just a day filled with discussion topics and events; it is the centerpiece around which the year-round wingman culture is anchored. Although the holiday season began with Thanksgiving, Wingman Day is a great entry into the Christmas and New Year's celebrations. All Airmen can gain greater insight from the program and "Know their Wingmen". The kickoff event for Wingman Day is a Jingle Bell-Wingman Day 5K run starting at 7 a.m. in front of the Sports and Fitness Center. During the late morning and early lunch, squadron commanders will have the opportunity to hold commanders' calls or roll calls to address important issues affecting their units and review the resources available to assist supervisors at all levels. The key event for midday is co-workers enjoying a meal together and sharing thoughts and experiences. The afternoon will be available for team building and sporting activities. A Wingman Day golf outing has been scheduled with Sunrise Vista Golf Course. The day's events will culminate with a "Boss and Buddy" social at the Officers' Club beginning at 4 p.m. Co-workers at all levels are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and build stronger relationships within their individual units as Team Nellis wraps up a fantastic year.
