Upgraded amenities to welcome your stay Published June 17, 2009 By Master Sgt. Suzanne Daily 99th Force Support Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- An intensive $798,000 upgrade project, featuring new amenities, of building 552, the Union Plaza, will take place here, June 18. Funded by the non-appropriated fund from Headquarters Service Agency in San Antonio, Texas, the project will update bedding, drapes, stairwells, appliances, furniture and decore items. This two-phased project will be completed in six weeks, and will minimize guest disturbance. Unlike other upgrade projects, this one will be more in depth and will improve employee break rooms, to include flooring, furniture and decore upgrade. Not only will the guests' comfort improve, but the quality of life of the men and women manning this facility is carefully considered. This update is in accordance with Air Force standards, where employee break rooms must reflect the same quality as the guest rooms. Flat panel televisions will also be a part of this upgraded package, allowing future expansion of guest services such as the abiltiy to check out from the room directly. It is the lodging manager's responsibility to ensure that we are meeting the adequacy standards established by the Air Force. The Air Force continuously updates standards to meet the needs of our military members, guests and their families. The challenge as a manager is to try and meet new standards in older facilities. This project does that to the maximum extent possible within the constraints of the existing facility. "Our mission is to provide our guests with a friendly, clean, safe and well maintained lodging facility," said Mrs. Cathy Fierstein, lodging general manager. "This project allows us to do that. Our Airmen are in the trenches maintaining aircraft, providing support services and every other job associated with getting aircraft in the air. When they get done after a long day on the flight line or at their job site, they deserve to come "home" to a nice room." For more information, contact the Nellis Lodging Office at (702) 652-2711.
