The 99th Security Support Squadron received orders to inactivate Aug. 13.

The unit, one of three squadrons assigned to 99th Security Forces Group, was in charge of securing a munitions storage area, which was closed down last year.

After completing their munitions storage security mission, Airmen assigned to this squadron served in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as part of the Quick Reaction Force of the newly formed 532d Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, securing Joint Base Balad, Iraq. The Airmen returned in April.

More than 200 Airmen across the 99th SFG have transferred or will transfer to other bases to continue to support other Air Force security missions.

A formal inactivation ceremony to celebrate the 99th SSS will take place in the following weeks.
