Combined Federal Campaign underway in Southern Nevada Published Oct. 20, 2009 By 2nd Lt. Claire Vazquez 57th Maintenance Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 2009 Combined Federal Campaign, which kicked off at Nellis Air Force Base Oct. 8 and runs through Dec.15, is currently underway in Southern Nevada. The CFC is an annual charity campaign in which servicemembers and federal employees have the opportunity to make donations from a list of more than 20,000 non-profit organizations. "The CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign and is the only campaign authorized to solicit donations from federal employees," said George Gilbert, the United Way representative for Southern Nevada. Participation is voluntary, and military personnel, federal employees, civilians and contractors can participate in the program. Donors can choose to give by cash, check or payroll deduction, and deductions can be as little as $1 per month. A section addressing frequently asked questions can be found within the CFC brochure. Last year, Nellis and Creech raised a total of $251,000. In 2007, the bases raised $301,000, contributing to a total of $273 million raised by the entire CFC that year.
