99th ABW inspection to affect Nellis daily operations

Due to the 99th Air Base Wing Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) taking place Jan 25-29, there may be temporary inconveniences for personnel, family members and visitors to base.

An ORI is designed to test how well a base prepares for wartime deployments and sustains combat operations.

Instances of increased security procedures, varied hours of business, or limited manning may delay operations for on-base installations.
Below are answers to various questions some may have on how the ORI affects the base populous:

Will the base be open during the week of the ORI?
The base will be open however expect delays due to increased security at base and building entrances.

What are the Commissary and Base Exchange hours during the readiness inspection?
AAFES and DECA installations on-base will operate under normal hours of business. Dependents, retirees, and active-duty military members are encouraged to carry their identification cards or CAC card on them at all times due to times of increased security that will happen during the ORI.

Will my appointment at the hospital be affected by the inspection?
The hospital will continue to operate under normal hours and medical appointments will not be affected. Individuals with an appointment are encouraged to arrive early due to increased security measures that may be taken at the hospital during the inspection.

Will the Child Development Center be able to accommodate children longer than normal?
The CDC will be operating normal hours and will be opening early in the case of a base recall. All child care after CDC duty hours is handled through extended family care. For more information or questions please contact the Family Child Care Office at (702)-652-4400 for other options.

Will I be able to go the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System building if I have a problem with my ID card during the ORI?

There will be limited services (0800-1500) for ID Cards & DEERS and no passport services during the week of 25 - 29 Jan 2010 due to the ORI. In addition, the ID Card and passport offices will be closed on February 3 for mandatory DOD training. Please plan accordingly. Will I be able to out-process through finance during the week of the ORI?
Finance briefing will not be affected during the ORI due to the amount of civilian contractors available to accomplish these briefings.

Will the ORI inspection affect Lomie Heard Elementary School scheduling?
No, the inspection is not expected to the bus schedule or operating hours of the elementary school.
