Nellis Service ready for tax season Published Jan. 26, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Michael Charles Nellis Public Affairs Office NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The Nellis AFB Tax Center officially opened its doors to provide free tax advice, preparation and filing assistance for Nellis and Creech Airmen, their dependents and retirees holding a Department of Defense identification card here Jan. 19. Located in building 625, across the parking lot from the Commissary, the tax center will operate Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until tax deadline, April 15. The Tax Center will be located on Creech every Wednesday with the same duty hours Individuals filing with 1040EZ and 1040A tax forms have a special walk-in time reserved from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Those filing 1040 forms with schedules and attachments can call and make an appointment during regular operating hours. Individuals wishing to receive assistance need to bring all necessary paperwork and documentation with them to their appointment or walk-in. Below is a list of Items that may need to be brought during the appointment: Military ID Card Social Security Cards for the filer and all dependents Recovery rebate amount for 2008 (Information can be found at www.irs.gov) Birth dates for primary, secondary and dependents on tax return Current year's tax package if available Wage and earning statements Form W-2, W-2G, and 1099-R from employers Interest and dividend statements from banks (Form 1099) A copy of last year's Federal and State returns (if available) Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit (blank check) Other relevant information about income and expenses (i.e., total paid for day care and day care identification numbers) To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign To make an appointment or to get more information on what exactly is required, call the tax center at (702)-652-2645 during normal operating hours.
